Is Our Government Broken?

So many times these days, we hear from people such as Barack Obama, that our government is broken. That it has left the average American behind. Personally, I find that assessment incorrect. I have spent the last twelve years or so fighting a battle with the state of Florida over an error that was made and in short would have cost me over thirty thousand dollars, if it weren’t corrected. I tried everything to fix this on my own, with no success. So I reached out to my state Senators and to President George W. Bush to ask for help. I received a personal reply from the President, and he directed the head of the Social Services to help correct the error. This single action brought the amount the state was seeking down to under $4,000. But there was still more to be done. With the help of my state Senator Jeff Miller, I was finally able to close this chapter of my life without costing me a single dime. They recognized the court order I had obtained a couple of years ago, which they had been ignoring, and they finally followed it and zeroed out my balance and ended more than a decade of fighting to restore my life to normal.

Had it not been for the actions of President Bush and Senator Miller, I would still be fighting that battle. They came to my aid when I needed them most, and they didn’t just give some excuse, they took action and helped me find justice once and for all. They were the only officials to extend a helping hand, with all that they have to deal with in their job, they took the time to help someone that isn’t rich, and doesn’t have a major standing in the world. I am just a regular guy, and they took the time to help me fix something that was wrong.

While the press and the Democrats tell us the economy is bad and getting worse, my wife and I have been seeing our lives changing for the better. We are making more money today than we did in days passed, and are on track to open our first major business. I have run a small business before, and the business we are planning now far exceeds those opportunities. Our current outlook is bright, and the only thing that might cause a problem, is if we get a President that raises taxes on our income, which will happen under Barack Obama. While we still should survive and do well, we will be forced to give away more of our hard earned dollars to give away programs that we should never support, and do no one any long term good. Instead of being able to invest that money into building our business further, and creating more jobs, we will be forced to give it to the government to fund wasteful programs.

This is the most important time, not only for Melissa and I, but for this country. We have a choice in the direction we will go. Will we choose a man that will keep our taxes low and trim the government, or a man who will decrease military support, and increase wasteful spending while increasing the taxes we all pay, cutting jobs in the process? How will you choose? Will we choose a man with real experience, or a man who requires on the job training in the most important job in the country. Maybe in the early days of this country we could afford inexperience, but at this stage, we can’t afford a President with training wheels. We need someone ready to lead on day one, not someone that needs to surround himself with people with real experience to make a simple decision. A good example is how Obama answered the question concerning the situation in Georgia. He changed his answer THREE DIFFERENT TIMES! I can just see him in office as President, making a decision with one of our allies, or worse yet one of our enemies, and then calling them back to tell them he changed his mind and wants to change his response. We would be a joke around the world, and we would have an even bigger target on our collective backs with a President who hesitates.

If our government isn’t broken today, it will be under an Obama Presidency. We simply can’t afford to take the chance on what will happen. We need to know more about what we can expect, and we don’t get that with Obama. He is too inexperienced, and we have no clue about how he will do. We do know he will raise taxes. We do know that small businesses will pay a higher cost to do business, running the prices everyone pays up even more. If you don’t think the extra taxes on higher incomes will effect you, think about who actually owns the businesses you do business with everyday. Do you think they will pay more without increasing the amount you pay to offset the amount they are paying out? If you don’t think it will hit you in the pocket, you are just fooling yourself. In the end, the middle and lower income people will ultimately pay the cost.
